Question Dye, 1gp

I must have spent 100's of plat on dye, mostly pouring it down the drain

I'd love to mess around a lot more with dye combos, but "research" is prohibative - in DAoC I used to make my own dyes and it was a piece of cake to mess around with colour combinations. So I wonder what people would think if I suggested...

1gp for all dyes at the dye trader!

Sane? yes / no? Personally I'd love to play with multi-black / other colour combos, but that's not happening at 10p per black! Even 100g for the cheapest colour really stacks up over an evening's mixing, argh!

I dunno, I like the idea because I'd love to do some serious experimenting with mixes, but I think I'd get sick of seeing 90% of players running around in all black pretty quick.

They all started at 1 gp. It's a market economy, and player demand inflated the prices. You could reset the prices, but they'd just inflate again within a day or two.

I think the thread starter means 1 gold forever and not resetting the prices.

Keep it driven by the players.

There are a lot of threads form various fanforums on dye mixtures and what they look like on different materials.

Everyone wouldn't be running around in Black armor. The only reason black costs such a rediculous amount is that it's really rare. If everyone could choose their colors freely, very few people would be running around with straight black armor.
I Like this idea.
You could say that dye is meant as a gold sink, but that's just a means to very cheaply fill in a role that something good should already be filling. If there's so little worth spending money on that you think dye should cost such a crazy amount, then that's a pretty big problem with the game in general.
And dyes start at 100 gold at traders, not 1.

I'm all for it, though I really doubt it will happen. I just don't think ANet wants to do it. Call it a hunch. Now, dye previews; that would just make everyone happy.

everyone would pick black and you wont be able to
tell the noobs from "1337" anymore.

why will everyone pick black?

because everyone loves the dark side none wants
to be the good guy (it happens rarely)
and black is cool as hell on any armor
so your idea there wont work.

me myself would try to get a blackier black black
if your idea came through.

Uhh... Dyes don't show who is "1337"... for all you know the person had a string of good luck while they were possibly in Pre-searing Tyria. Or wherever else they got it. Others basically bought it because its a rare find and they liked black. Personally I want to find a bloody-red color for all armors. The only one that's close to me seems like assassin armor with regular red because its already so dark.
I prefer the test before you dye type thing. As for 1gp... Well... whats the point in keeping dye if they were 1gp? All dyes you would find it would be still on the ground unless you really wanted to start a 1k collection thing.

Theres me 3gp worth of dye for ya...

It won't happen, simply because some wealthy players have a lot of money invested in dye stockpiles--and let's face it, black dye has the most stable price of any item in the whole game.

If dye expenense is a problem, then just get your combinations right the first time.

It's silly for something like dyes to cost 10p for a single unmixed color.

I would love it if they didn't drop at all, but rather had to be "mixed" by the players with different materials for different colors. Why in the world does that mob carry dye to begin with?

I think it's perfect how black is at such a bloated price, keeps people from going all dark, although I love black - simply dying your armour black is uncreative.

So, because someone's armour is not dyed black they are a noob? Granted, if it were to happen, for a while there would be alot of black-dyed armour, but once the novelty wore off I think there'd be loads of individuality. People would be able to be more flexible with their armour colours. While I don't 100% agree that all dyes should be 1gp, I do like Undivine's idea of previewing dyes. It would even be better if dyes dropped a bit more often. I'm not just talking about black dye drops, I only seem to get orange dyes and even they drop very infrequently

i'd really hate to see everyone in black, even though i'd like to see a place where u can mix them for free and put them on model armor to see how they looked

Right now, dye of any colour seems rare. I'm sure I get more gold items drop than I do dyes... or maybe that's my imagination.

I wish I *could* get a mix right first time, but there's no way of knowing how things will turn out until you take the plunge... it's too difficult the way it is without burning through huge piles of cash like I've done already. I'd rather spend my money on materials, armour, weapons and skills, which is plenty for me to be getting on with.

It would make dye drops pointless. If you want to use them on your armor just pay the price. If you want to get certain colors by mixing just find a Dye Chart.

lets see now.

they could just stop dye drops completely because who would use an inventory slot for a 1 gold value item.

crap it dropped a black dye........lousy luck

I like this idea, every warrior trying to look cool has FoW or kurzick armor anyway which are already black. I agree with somebody that posted above, the novelty would wear off and people would start getting creative. This would add some fun to customizing your character.

It won't happen though, people have invested into black dyes, imagine how pissed they would be if black dye was suddenly worth 1g. Solution, make black dyes already bought be worth like 8 or 9k back to the trader so they can get their money back and invest in ectos or something.
